Anti-icing is the strategy of treating surfaces ahead of frozen precipitation, and it is especially valuable in Western Washington where freezing rain and drizzle are common. By putting down brine before the event, we create a barrier that keeps ice from cementing to the pavement. This proactive layer means a much lighter effort to clear surfaces once the weather passes. We time anti-icing to the arrival of freezing rain or a hard overnight drop, focusing on lots, walkways, and access routes. The strategy delivers safer surfaces with less material and less labor than reactive deicing alone.
