Bridge decks on private property and campuses freeze faster than adjacent pavement because cold air circulates both above and below them. In Western Washington's freezing-rain events, a bridge can glaze over while the connecting walkways stay merely wet. We clear the deck fully and apply anti-icing treatment ahead of forecast freezing rain so ice cannot bond to the surface. Materials are chosen to protect the deck's structure and to keep runoff from harming the water below.
