Targeted deicing of asphalt driveways to break the black ice that forms during Western Washington’s melt-and-refreeze nights.
Asphalt driveways absorb daytime warmth and then radiate it away fast after sunset, so meltwater refreezes into a hard glaze right when people head out in the morning. We apply deicer sized to the driveway's temperature and the ice already present, rather than dumping excess salt that runs into the yard. On the steeper driveways common in hillside Puget Sound neighborhoods, we concentrate treatment where tires need grip most. Asphalt tolerates most deicers well, so we pick a fast-acting product matched to the overnight low.
