Loading docks combine steep approaches, constant foot and equipment traffic, and steel dock plates that ice over fast, making them a serious hazard during a Puget Sound freeze. Meltwater from trucks and dock seals refreezes overnight right where pallet jacks and workers cross. We deice the apron, the approach grade, and the dock edge, choosing materials that will not corrode the steel plates and hardware. Treatment is timed around delivery schedules so the surface is safe when trucks arrive.
